Saw this post on another forum on what someone said to expect after a Transplant.  I gotta admit, this got me a little shaky:

“As for time at work, this is tricky. If you’re going with strip; then you’ll want longer hair on the sides and back to cover the scar/staples. You’ll have the staples in for about 10 days and it looks pretty gross. Once they remove them, the scar area will still be a little swollen and red for months. The other issue is that you’ll have longer hair on the sides/back, but the top will be shaved. Take a look at my HT#2 pics to give you an idea of how this looks. Can you wear a hat at the office? I lucked out because I own my business and wearing a hat is no big deal. Even meeting with clients worked out because caps were a part of my style and I’m in an artistic field. If you can’t wear a hat, then you’re gonna look jacked up for months. I’m sure other guys will have ideas to help out including cover ups, hair styles, etc…”

Anybody got some advice or consolation.    This maybe just a radical case or don’t know?

The pics that he posted were over 11 days and that was phenomenal for the recipient site.    This person from the quote,  was talking about the donor area as well and overall detectability factor front and back of having a transplant.    I know lasers are going to help this tremendously based on the science and OMG’s work.    And I am taking a week.  Just wondering if this is still going to stick out pretty bad?  Or will Toppik and such hook it up?

Sorry bout that.  Kinda spazzish on my part.  I just looked at OMG’s pictures again in the other thread and reread his post and that is awesomely fast healing.    Obviously the guy posting and most HT recipients concurring, have not and or did not use LLLT after surgery or any time around it.    A lot of these posters on other forums and without LLLT were talking about still being red front and back at the 2 month mark.  Some longer.

That makes this a pretty big deal when you compare it to LLLT dispensing with the redness in 11 days.    If this holds for everyone,  lasers will revolutionize this whole process and make the recovery time a lot easier.  That is what OMG was talking about in the last thread.    The guy who posted that quote above probably did not even know what LLLT was.    This is starting to sink in…......

I have been thinking about the “Special Healing Formula” that you get from the transplant doctor after your procedure.  If you look at the ingredients, alcohol, ppg and other stuff(acorbic acid; probably oxidized), wonder if it might not actually help with healing.  Wondering if its something you might be able to subsitute totally with your Laser Helmet?    I have been thinking about supplements post transplant as well.  Thinking of using Bromelaine in addition to my AOX combo(GliSODin, NAC, Selenium, C).    There is alot of evidence that Bromelaine dramatically reduces healing time.

“You’ll have the staples in for about 10 days and it looks pretty gross.”

STAPLES?!  What is this… 1989?!  lol…  no STAPLES are used by any transplant surgeon I know!  They used a pretty sophisticated plastic surgeon’s stitch that you have to get removed in a few weeks.  I got mine removed at a local “Urgent Care” type of place at about the three week point -and once again the doctors thought that the wound looked AMAZING!

Also…

“If you can’t wear a hat, then you’re gonna look jacked up for months.”

I HAD HAIR in “months”!  80% of the ones in the front didn’t even go dormant, and by month THREE I had decent density.  By month six, all of them were out and at least an inch long which meant that they were all technically out by month five (maybe slightly sooner).

But back to the main point… this guy and me had 180 degrees opposite hair transplant experiences, that’s for sure!  He absolutely made the case for LLLT, because your results are going to be different -that includes the donor area, too.  By month 1 1/2, the plastic surgeon that I was seeing for something unrelated told me that my scar looked like it had been healing for a YEAR and a half -not a month and a half.

I do think everyone should take a week off from work, but that’s all you need.  Sure, you might still be able to tell a little if someone is looking right up close on your head, but something else AMAZING happens when you’re a week or two on the other side of a transplant… you don’t give a damn.  You start undergoing a psychological change of “You know what?  I’m going to have hair in a few months and I don’t give a rats ass”.

That part doesn’t really matter, though, because you will be healed to the point that most people probably won’t notice.  I just wanted to mention that change because it’s a great feeling!  You just don’t even care -and you’ll probably catch yourself telling people that you would never have said anything about this to before.

Well, you don’t care when you are healing great -unlike the dude with the staples and no lllt!  lol…

OMG,

I made the decision a long time ago.  I think I just had my last bout of stage fright jitters.    Not to mention it was a long day, I was tired and all logic and memory was out the door.  In the absence of reasoning and recall, guess I had a case of the whatifs.  Thought I’d gotten rid of all that but she snuck me.

Looking back over your post and pictures it is clear.  This makes getting a transplant an insanely much easier ride.    That post was from over on HLH and obviously those guys are ahead of their time with technology and what(NOT).  Goes to show that history lives and breathes as the present sometimes on the internet.(poor guys).    LLLT is a warp drive-gamechanger when it comes to tranplant recovery: bottom line.

And you really put it all in perspective too with the psychological factor.    I gotta say for the most part that is how I feel about it as well.  80% of the tranplanted hair didn’t fall out?  That is beyond awesome.  Hair by month 3?  Wow.

All I can say is,  it is a really nice thing having someone’s who’s paved the way impart their experience and explain these these beneficial aspects of LLLT and post-transplant healing.  I feel good about this.  LLLT is indeed powerful, incredible stuff and its nice having the Grand-Laser Poobah hook me up with all the faqs.    Thanks dude!

Now I just have to order the diodes?  How many diodes do think for the recipient device?  I will have 90 for the donor site

Did the doctor give you a topical regimen as well, like dm5 mentioned?  Would you combine this with the lllt or cut it away altogether?

Joey Ramone…

No, no topical therapy at all!  Just some pain pills -most of which I “saved for later” (lol…  I guess I’ll never grow up)- and some pills to reduce inflammation and maybe some antibiotics, too.  I ran across my old records not too long ago that had the exact meds written on them, so if I didn’t pitch them, I’ll post exactly what he gave me.

The first one I got a long time ago had a RIGOROUS topical therapy that involved some sort of copper peptide cream or something and a spray -all paled in comparison to LLLT, of course.  No doubts about that.

DM5…

80% of the hair in the FRONT didn’t fall out and/or go dormant.  The back (which was the horseshoe part of my head -I didn’t get anything in the crown) was another story.  Most of those DID, which absolutely fascinated Dr. Cooley and me, and it was a progressive scale from front to back with the percentage of density.  What I mean is that I kept probably 40% in the middle, and almost none in the back!  Of course, the ones that went dormant still came in really early, but we could speculate all day long as to why the front ones stayed.

Maybe, just maybe, it had to do with increased blood flow from the LLLT (I know… something FOR ONCE might actually have to do with blood flow!).  Whatever the reason, I really think that if I had increased my LLLT to a higher dosage, it would have made the others stay also.  I don’t know that for an absolute fact, but the more I ponder the reasons for this, the more I come up with the same answer -I needed to do more LLLT geared for wound healing.

Ok, though… you already have 90 for the donor area -that’s great!  I’ll put together a foam thing for you over the weekend (send me your full address via PM), and if it has more holes that 90, I’ll send the extra.  ONLY RECENTLY have I stopped using mine, by the way -except after the tanning bed (yeah, I said “tanning bed”, so what… I’m in videos now!  lol..l!).  That can make it itch, and the device instantly erradicates that.

I actually may start using mine again, though, and the reason I kept using it so long was because it was hitting an area of my head that the helmet wasn’t -and I’m a firm believer that “the more, the merrier -as long as it’s in a different spot” with LLLT.  So, for a long time, I was using a 415 diode helmet, then going right into the 107 diode scar device.  I’m, of course, back to my original Laser Messiah because I have a habit of being way too generous with my helmets and I give them to friends.

By the way, as you guys know, this site is eventually going to be primarily VIDEO FOCUSED with the news article.  I’m actually attempting to upload the first ones right this second -but if any of you have ever messed with loading HD videos to YouTube, you know that the failure rate is 50/50, and you end up waiting hours and hours only to have an error at the end of the upload.  So, hopefully I’ll actually have success sometime tonight.  Anyway, THIS EXACT TOPIC is going to be the next video I do -which I’ll hopefully start this weekend.  It’s going to be “The case for LLLT with Hair Transplant Recovery” or something like that.

So, to do this video, I really need my stand device here.  Don’t worry though -your transplant takes precedent, so if I’m not finished, I’ll just work on something else.  I’m going to try to film the video in plenty of time to get the stand to you though.  You may be in luck because I might decide to wire it for the video -and probably just poach the diodes later- and you’ll have it ready to go.  I’m still conteplating the finances for this… tax time is an expensive time of year, and I need to make sure that I can use 300 diodes for personal use vs. helmets first.  I’ll let you know!

By the way… almost EVERYONE freaks out a bit the first time, especially the night before and then right after you get back and look in the mirror!  You start realizing that “Oh my gosh, this is permanent!”.  lol…  Of course, that quickly goes away -and I, of course, REJOICED the night before and immediately after this time around!

So, don’t worry… everyone panics a little!

For doing a favor for someone I got a much pretty low price on 300 diodes   But it will take until April 5th for them to get here(because it takes them around 5-7 days to make and then send..  I can:

1)Send the diodes to you and you can use in your video
2)Send them here.

Let me know and I will place the order tonight so we can get them in time.
