Detoxing

July 19, 2010, 08:29 AM Hi all, just arrived and I have to say there looks like a lot of really well informed opinions here which is great. My hair loss story is a good 5 or more years old now. How time flys when you are not really having fun! Part of my battle in recent years has involved poor health due to an autoimmune thyroid condition, albeit not a serious one; subclinical is the typical term doctors use. However, on my road to all things healthy I did try detox for heavy metals, using chelation. It is done easily and safely at home with homeopathic drops or clay baths. I did a 3-4 week course mainly because I believed that I was burdened to some degree. Somewhat surprisingly, my hair gained a lustre, shine and fullness that I had not seen for some time. It plateaued after several weeks and wasn’t as noticeable I thought but definetely made a difference. I’ve pondered how this came to be and I was in part hoping that heavy metal chelation would have a knock on effect for my hair as well. The best reasoning I can come up with is that as the liver and kidneys struggle to rid the body of toxic metals, including lead, mercury, copper, cadmium etc, they build up in the body and start to compete at cell receptor sites with nutrients such as zinc, magnesium and others. Eventually malabsorption sets in and the tissues just aren’t able to make use of what available nutrients you are getting from your diet regardless of how well you are eating - or thinking you are eating. Once you cleanse and flush the metals out of the tissues, the vitamins and minerals can do their work in healthy tissues again, including the scalp. Don’t know if anyone else here has had success with detox regimes. Some hair clinics do like to use detoxing as an adjunct to their programs I have noticed. Happy to hear anyone elses thoughts on this? Jads apologies if the formatting is off! |

[ # 1 ] July 19, 2010, 06:18 PM I do detox’n off and on…liver(currently a combo by Swanson’s-Ultimate Liver Elixir)..as well as more heavy metal specific. Hard to tell how it’s helped. An incomplete list of things I’ve used/use or may some day: OSR/OSR#1, cysteine peptide, whey protein..other glutathione boosters… Microsilica(or maybe the cheaper Micro Plant powders out there)-

Currently taking what’s listed in the protocol here..which also helps in the detox area: http://www.advancedhealing.com/blog/2009/09/25/dr-ettingers-biofilm-protocol-for-lyme-and-gut-pathogens/ There are so many things out there that could help in this area…. |

[ # 3 ] July 19, 2010, 08:03 PM I have started taking whey protein shakes with added bc amino acids and weightlifting more often. My scalp inflammation is way down. I am also a week on taking no other supplements. I doubt that has done anything for my hair but im not sure. Its surprisingly noticeable. Gonna start slowly incorporating everything again and see if maybe it was the protein shake. |

[ # 4 ] July 19, 2010, 10:19 PM Thanks for the links everyone. Definetely suggest that heavy duty detoxes using DMSA\DPSA or many others need to be done with proper supervision. A lot of chelation protocols make you feel worse before you get better. brh, how did you determine that your scalp inflammation was down after the protein shakes? I too have worked out for many years and used a number of different whey powders and I can’t say I’ve seen any improvement in my hair directly linked to protein shakes. However, the boosted glutathione levels and added aminos is going to be good for anyone that supplements with Whey protein, that is for sure. By the way, i tested my tap water with a metals kit the other day and it is full of copper and cadmium! Filtered water all the way for me. |

[ # 5 ] July 20, 2010, 12:47 AM Jads, im not saying thats what it is…im just trying to justify why because it is so noticeable. Its not making much sense to me right now. Im not saying my hair is better but my scalp feels 10 times better. I mean I use to HAVE to wash my hair twice a day because it helped relieve the inflammation that felt like was from an oily scalp. Lately ive been skipping my night wash. Maybe in a week it will go back to the way it was i dunno. I have been getting more sun lately as well but not consistent to when I started getting less inflammation. Im almost thinking my body didnt agree with one of the supps i was taking or something. I need to get a filter as well. |

[ # 6 ] July 20, 2010, 06:05 PM My fav whey protein product is still NanoPro: http://www.biopharmasci.com/patients/nanopro/default.asp They have a great “greens” product as well..which I mix with the NanoPro. Now I notice they have a new product out- http://www.biopharmasci.com/patients/nmg/default.asp ..which is basically 3 of their products mixed together. Hmmmmm…. Goat milk protein is another fav: http://www.mtcapra.com/double-bonded-protein/ |

[ # 7 ] July 20, 2010, 06:54 PM I think Jay Robb Whey is pretty good. I am a firm beleiver that synthetic whey or Walmart Whey will hurt your hair. Always noticed more loss after using it compared to an organic brand. Jay Robb has no synthetic stuff and uses Stevia as a sugar substitute. http://www.jayrobb.com/ As far as detox goes, OSR, ALA, Fulvic Acid/Zeolite, Wheat Grass, Cilantro. |

[ # 8 ] July 20, 2010, 08:33 PM Jads - Whey can be good. I used Uni Pro Perfect Protein as I know who designed it and let’s just say at more than 70 years age he has all his hair. Although it can be detrimental if you can’t digest it easily. It is easier to digest it if you eat something at the same time (chewing helps) and you can also use enzymes to help dairy digestion. It is more problematic if you are blood type O. The amino acids would certainly be useful for phase 2 conjugation pathways. But I’ve mentioned my caveats. In terms of detox I do not think you can fully resolve a chronic situation like hair loss without some kind of significant organ enhancement or detox/cleanse. Eating dandelions every day is excellent, as are many supplements such as Algin, Ecklonia Cava, L Gluatmine & NAC, Cytochrome P450 enhances and detox phase 2 pathways in matching amounts, as well as good fibre. The trick is two fold in my opinion - (i) which supplements will work for you - PM me if you would like an introduction to someone who I find (YMMV) can tell you which supps will work for *you*. (ii) avoidance, avoidance, avoidance - if you need to detox jads, where are you sourcing the toxins. My guess is indoor Air Quality will be a huge culprit. This is something that I have studied. All the best…! |

[ # 9 ] July 20, 2010, 09:38 PM DM5..Jay Robb is good. There are others too, such as Dr. Mercola’s, which tastes a bit better but probably because of the additional protein sources and other ingreds. Swanson also has something similar. NanoPro also contains other ingreds, including (encapsulated) colostrum:
I have a habit of trying new ones..mainly because I get sick of taking the same thing after awhile. But starting this Fall(when it’s cooler to ship) I may do a 6 month experiment with the complete BioPharma line. My system does seem to do better on the NanoPro than other whey products. The goats milk would be second. Pectasol is also another of my favs: https://www.econugenics.com/t-pcc.aspx?affiliateID=10062 |

[ # 11 ] July 22, 2010, 09:56 AM You can request free sample from there..info on the website. And PLEASE let me know if you ever come across any sales on their products. Usually one can only get ‘em cheaper when a site has an overall discount on an order. Timothy Long’s site is one. Here’s another all natural whey product..have yet to try it. Was surprised to see it here, via their email: http://www.luckyvitamin.com/m-1559-teras-whey Their homepage: http://teraswhey.com/ |

[ # 12 ] July 24, 2010, 07:50 PM Hey Guys, I am fairly new to this site but not to new to health etc and fighting the battle with hairloss. A couple cool things for detox and proteins you guys might want to look into which I found helped me were as follows: Detox - Wheatgrass Juice - This is a huge blood purifier and pretty much does everything for the body internally. When you take this depending on how toxic you are you might feel a bit sick but it will die off eventually. You can dilute the wheatgrass shot with carrot juice or just a bit of water, but if you want some serious punch dont dilute it. I dont know how this worked in conjunction with my hair but when I was taking this consistently I really felt this helped me, my energy levels, hair, everything. Wheatgrass is a phenominal detoxifier. You dont have to take more than a couple ounces a day if need be. I haven’t been taking it as much as I want to again due to my circumstances but soon I am going to crank it up again lord willing. Absorable Clay - Eating clay or “dirt”. Yeah this sounds crazy but there is a certain type of clay out there that you can mix with water or take capsules which will bind to all the junk in your system and you will excrete it. This is a must. I have noticed since I haven’t been doing this as much my skin is much more oily (head) than I want it to be. The clay provides all the necessary minerals that our bodies need that we dont get in our regular diets everyday. If you can work past the grind sometimes in the teeth which when I do it I mix it with water and drink it fast so Im not chewing on hardly anything it doesn’t taste bad at all. The product I used was Terramin I think by Living Clay or something of that nature. Ozone Tent Detox - I am hoping to do this when I relocate and get rooted here very soon. What happens is one sits in a box in which steam is pumped into this box, oxygen and ozone. The heat opens up the pores in which the oxygen and ozone goes into the system. The ozone will penetrate up to about 3-4 inches I believe in which it should hit organs and purge them drawing out all the trash from your organs. It’s essentially a sweat box but with ozone and oxygen pumped into it. To me this would be one of the best detoxes out there but again I have not tried this one as of yet and I hopefully will be able to soon. Do a google on it and check it out guys. Protein - I work out pretty frequently and take lots of proteins/supplements etc. After this next batch of protein I am gonna stick to one that I tried awhile back which is Hemp Protein. I noticed that even though it was a bit tougher to down and didn’t mix well I felt I was getting into better shape drinking this green stuff. Plus it has everything the body needs, no fillers, no nothing.
http://www.homegrownharvest.com/wholesale-grains.html That second link if you click on one of the grains you can see the nutritional value. Salba and Quinoa are some powerhouses….Check it out. I hope this helps out a bit. Let me know guys

[ # 14 ] July 25, 2010, 04:53 AM Some great stuff in this thread! socratees— Great advice there. I grew my own organic wheatgrass and juiced it for a while, have also taken bentonite clay internally; fantastic way to detox metals out of your body. Hemp protein is fantastic stuff as well!! Actually, I pretty much agree with everything that you have there though, Salba, super grains, etc. |

[ # 16 ] September 29, 2010, 09:33 PM This is a great discussion with lots of helpful information. I have found a helpful website that has a lot of information (videos) on what causes hair loss and hair loss treatments. This video on how a weakened immunity system might cause hair loss might be of interest to the readers of this thread. |
