Spiro?

August 30, 2010, 03:54 PM Hi all, probably my first post on here, great information. History- 31 years old, losing since probably 18, two HT’s for a total of around 2,500 (definitely need more). I’m extremely healthy, workout 5 days a week and my diet’s in check. Using Rogaine in the morning and spiro at night (formerly Zixx at night). I also use a lot of supplements and I think controlling my hormones with herbal test boosters has definitely helped my hair loss in the last three years. I’m currently trying to maintain or get my hair looking healthier- it looks so much better when healthy and the diameter is thicker, but looks like crap at most other times (I’m sure ya’ll know what I’m talking about). For the life of me I can’t figure out what makes it better, if I could discover that secret I’d be a happy man. I’ve been using Super Zix for around 6 months, but recently decided to try out spiro 5%- what is the consensus on spiro here? My biggest worries right now are temple recession and the sides of my vertex- this was never a problem before but is getting worse. Currently trying to get some cash together for one of OMG’s laser helmets. Do these generally improve the health of the hair drastically? |

[ # 1 ] August 30, 2010, 09:27 PM In theory it’s a good topical and it very well may be. I just haven’t run into too many people that ever claimed benefit from it. |

[ # 2 ] August 31, 2010, 04:13 AM Hi I, I would use spiro 2% in the morning and afternoon, and apply 5% for the night application. That is by far the most effective way of blocking DHT i have found in my 30y old war with MPB. i would also recommend EMU oil for the night appl. to enhance penetration of the 5% spiro. Today I use, xandrox 15+ and LLLT 300diods.. spiro and emuoil and Polys.80 and Keto.schampoo. I’m also looking forward to use the new supplements Nid and IMH is working on.. Release was supposed to be in August.. So tomorrow!? Regarding LLLT, no drastic change for me since january this Y. But slow improvments is the most valuable.. and that IS happening! Cheers ang good luck! / Viking |

[ # 3 ] August 31, 2010, 10:11 AM Thanks Joe and Viking. Joe—I believe Zixx was doing some good for me, but for some reason (in my individual case) it gave me constant acne like sores on my head. I thought I’d try spiro and see what it could do, I may move back if it doesn’t do any better than Zixx though. Viking—thanks for the tips, I should be getting a laser helmet soon. My issue with spiro is I have diffuse thinning and it’s going to be expensive to keep putting it all over my scalp. I’ve been trying to pinpoint times when my hair was great to see if perhaps it was a certain supplement- last fall was one of those times, and I was taking a nutrient partitioning supplement that contained R-ALA- does this have any affect on hair? It’s the only supplement I really changed during that period, I just thought of it last night. |

Yes, it’s very likely the R-ALA had a positive impact on your hair. Read “The Value of Lipoic Acid” section at this link: http://www.immortalhair.org/theoryinpractice.htm

Spiro in the morning? Doesn’t that stuff smell really bad? |

[ # 6 ] August 31, 2010, 10:51 AM Thanks Scotty- that’s really interesting, I’m going to pick up more and see if it has the same effect- if so I’ll be a happy guy, my hair looked much thicker during that period. Also, the spiro I have doesn’t smell really, slightly menthol- it also has caffeine and retinol. |

[ # 7 ] August 31, 2010, 02:13 PM Scotty, the 2% spiro I use does not smell that bad.. I can live with it and in my opinion it is not even close to really bad. Intellectural, then we have different issues then, I have a classic MPB. As far as I understand following foras on this hairloss issue, there are different mechanisms when it comes to the two different hairloss routes.. My major battle seams to be DHT, I can’t remember what was the major part for diffuse thinners. But the theory was that is really two different things and treatments.. If you search old thread on foras I’m sure you will find those discussions.. Cheers / Viking |

[ # 8 ] August 31, 2010, 02:16 PM I mean, I definitely have MPB- my hairline went first, then more on my top, although my vertex on the back has remained pretty solid. I do have temple recession, and the hair on my sides above and behind my ears has thinned. I’m not sure what mine is, some kind of combination. |

[ # 9 ] August 31, 2010, 02:25 PM Ok, if you have a lot of hair, spirocream would be alot more difficult to apply and you will use a lot.. I would suggest that you use 2% alcoholbased.. better penetration stand alone if you ask me.. The only draback is the drying effect using it 2-3 times a day. I would recommend you to try it gor 6 months and evaluate. Best of luck! |

[ # 10 ] August 31, 2010, 02:28 PM Thanks man, I just actually ordered a 3 pack of the S5 (5%) cream from hairlosstalk. I’m going to give it a shot, using it at night with rogaine in the morning. If it doesn’t do much (along with Na-r-ala and curcumin supplementation) I’ll move back to Zixx at night. |

[ # 12 ] August 31, 2010, 02:36 PM Yeah, I may do that too. The hairline has transplants, I’m getting more worried about the sides of the vertex and temples at the moment. Thanks for all the advice man, I appreciate it. |

[ # 13 ] August 31, 2010, 04:04 PM intellectural. A lot of times a hair loss treatment can cause acne. But it is usually transitory. If you stick with it long enough the acne usually resolves. Joe |

[ # 14 ] August 31, 2010, 04:09 PM I understand Joe, I still think Zixx is a great product and I’m sure I’ll be back to it, I’ve just had some aggressive shedding lately and I’ve heard about spiro for years but never tried it. I thought I’d give it a shot, I’m hoping the NA-R-ALA can do what I believe it did last time I was taking it. |
