September 05, 2010, 01:08 PM Can anyone tell me if dermarollers are beneficial to the skin of the scalp? Are they a good or bad idea for the scalp? I’ve read good things but has anyone used them and was it helpful to the skin? Will the help with exfoliation and fibrosis or will they cause further damage or even scarring? If anyone can point me in the right direction it would help alot. |

[ # 1 ] October 23, 2010, 03:11 PM Actually I am interested in checking this out too… I had my head derma-rolled a few times and - along with lasering - am seeing a lot more vellous hair growth… Any reason anyone can think of why derma rolling will not work? It has proven great success on all sort of skin conditions, promoting regrowth or fixing problems, why could it not do the same for the scalp? |

[ # 2 ] October 24, 2010, 07:44 PM I also agree I have one myself and have only been using it on and off for about a month. What size roller are you using? I was told not to go over a .5mm roller. |

[ # 3 ] October 24, 2010, 10:19 PM I use the Mag-Gro (anyone can Google it if they’re curious) as part of my simple regimen. I use it for about 2 min / day. Obviously, the magnets are silliness, but it is a good scalp massager which seems to thicken and toughen the scalp after a few weeks of use. I’m not positive it helps, but I think it probably does help to a certain extent. The plastic roller is hard pointed plastic, but it does not penetrate the scalp. Its sort of like 300 bic pen points pressing against the scalp as its rolling along under moderate pressure. At the beginning it does hurt a little if pressure is applied. Over time it doesnt hurt at all - which I suspect suggests that the scalp gets somewhat tougher and thicker after some weeks of regular usage. |

I ordered the 1 mm and will see how that works out. I have seen recommendations on various sites, including “For thinning hair or greying hair, the 0.5mm Derma Roller is ideal, with 1mm rollers more suitable for more extensive hair loss.” - I think the main issue with going any higher is that the scalp is more sensitive than the face - but in theory if you could handle it, 1.5 is doable.
