February 21, 2010, 02:59 AM All, So i have posted about this on the regrowth site about 6 months ago, so forgive me for mentioning this again but, I think it is really important if i got some feedback/closure on the subject. So without further mention… About 15 months ago, I went to a clinic in Toronto called “Micron Laboratories” http://www.micronlabs.com They boast a different (natural) way to stop hair loss. Essentially, without the use of finasteride or minoxidil, they would like to preserve the hair you have now and thicken it. If you have suffered from recession, you would have to live with it. I had a 1 hour consultation, where the “Trichologist” examined my hair under a microscope. He mentioned at the bulb of the hair shaft, I had oily deposits which were a result of a scalp condition which was causing the follicle to suffocate and shrink. He claimed that I had subaceous glands which were producing too much oil which started to gum up the follicle. The oversecretion of these natural oils were building up creating a subaceous plug which prevented oil from lubricating the shaft. The solution that the clinic proposed was the application of a water based solution and then the application of a heat cap. The heat cap was supposed to open up the pores surrounding the follicle to allow this solution into the follicle. The goal was that this solution would dissolve the oil and flush it out. After many treatments, the oil and gunk in there was dissolved and flushed out, and the secretion problem was under control, then the follicle would begin to thicken in diameter to what it was in glory days. In addition, I was supposed to use special hygenic products (shampoo, conditioner, and triseptic) Anyways, the trichologist mentioned that he didn’t believe DHT was the true cause of hair loss, especially in younger people (such as myself). He believed that DHT was more of a problem when you are older. The reason why i didn’t go for this was because he wanted to perform 120 treatments over 6 - 9 months at about $30/ treatment, I was still in university, and I was unsure about the science. ACTION: I would like feedback as to what you think about this. Is there any legitimacy about this. If so, can we do this ourselves. I am intrigued about the use of a heat cap and topicals. I wonder if the laser helmet effectiveness is augmented with a topical because there is a thermal effect, similar to what would also be seen with a heat cap. Thanks, PP |

[ # 1 ] February 21, 2010, 07:54 AM try some betonite clay, or polysorbate 80, a few times a week, + nizoral once a week, and a organic shampoo the other days. they will clean the gunk out of those follicles, but whether or not that gunk is causing miniturization remains a mystery, at the moment sebum plugs seem to be popping out all over my scalp, does that mean new hair will grow?, who knows. theres no proof those plugs stop blood flow, or concentrate dht, its all anecdotal. FWIW, ive always thought a major contributing factor for mpb is that as humans who havent evolved much since being cavemen (physically i mean, not mentally, obviously we got intelligent) i happen to think our sebaceous glands are programmed to release enough oil for long hair that never gets cut, and that falls back on a certain angle where oil can easily slide down the shaft. now as modern sophisticated men, we cut our hair short, and our glands release the same amount of oil, and it clogs up our follicles, which because the hairs been cut, now fall on a different angle. i like this theory, but the problem is, why dont females get the mpb shape. they have full hair (most of the time) whether or not its cut short. Not to mention transplanted hairs grow perfectly in mpb areas. |

[ # 3 ] February 21, 2010, 07:10 PM Not sure what to say but I will say that I think Immortal Hair believes that androgens are more likely to be the cause of early balding and that other factors come into play (free radical damage, etc.) in men who start balding at an older age. Sort of opposite to what your trichologist said. I am from the Toronto area as well. Just out of curiosity, what was the name of the trichologist? There aren’t that many of them around here. I wondering if it is the dude I saw last year. |
