March 16, 2010, 10:08 AM Hey guys. Long time. Great site OMG, its good to see the cause is still moving forward. I thought everyone had gone separate ways. Newayz, I realized that the hair my dad has left has thickened and his loss has seemed to stop. The only thing I think would have caused this is the saw palmetto he takes for his prostate. I never thought saw palmetto was worth a darn. maybe it could be something else i dunno. I wonder if it has worked for him being related, if it would do this for me. |

[ # 1 ] March 16, 2010, 10:40 AM Hey, brh! The gravity of the best hair loss community in the world CAN NOT be overcome! lol… I can’t think of any actual monster movie examples right now, but we’re like those monsters that get splattered all over the landscape, but the parts slowly slide back towards each other and become one again. Ok, let me go ahead and start with the really conspiritorial stuff that might not be accurate at all! Hey, it’s not a forum without an occasional bout of wrong information! I do believe that most -if not all- of the negative studies done on saw palmetto have been funded by companies like Merck (or some other company with a vested interest in having a natural substance NOT WORK). Meaning… it’s the equivalent of TGI Fridays taste testing the new Ruby Tuesday menu, and coming to the shocking conclusing that they like their own menu better. I don’t know if that’s true, and frankly it plays 0% into my thought process because I “know the deal” about Saw Palmetto…. and I’ll share it with you! The fact is that Saw Palmetto has extremely varying amounts of it’s “active ingredient” (for lack of a better term) -which is beta sitosterol. Even pills IN THE SAME BOTTLE have levels that are all across the board. Well, imagine doing a Propecia study in which the pills varied from .1mg to 5mg, with the median amount being pretty low. It’s not hard to see that you’d get varying results. This is probably the sole reason in which you have some studies that say “Yes it works”, and some that say “No it doesn’t”. This is probably the reason why the results in the forums (in the past… it doesn’t seem like many people take saw palmetto anymore) were accross the board as well. Now, as far as I know, there haven’t been any real studies on beta sitosterol… but judging by the amount of side effects that people got here in the forums, I’d say that it was mega concentrated -so that leads me to believe that yeah, it actually has the stuff that would work (it just needed to be taken in smaller doses). SuperZix II has liquid beta sitosterol in it (it’s in the HairMuck part), but I don’t know if that’s the reason it works for me or not. I’ve always speculated something else is going on with Zix, but I could be wrong on that, too -it could simply be functioning as a DHT blocker that isn’t strong enough to cause side effects. Anyway, that’s my thoughts on Saw Palmetto. You’d be better off going strait to the Beta Sitosterol -but I’m unsure of the dosages. Immortal used to have that in his regimen, but I think he eventually eliminated it. Either way, he knows the right dosages. As far as determining results though, DHT blockers can take a really long time to show success, so it wouldn’t suprise me if most everyone stopped trying saw palmetto or beta sitosterol prematurely. You know human nature… sure, if it’s an expensive drug by a billion dollar company, you’re going to take it a year. If it’s something that costs $10 that you can pick up in any drug store, you’re going to be inclined to think it’s not very important, and come to the conclusion after four or five months that you are wasting your time and decide to cut your losses. lol… That’s how almost every single one of us acts -including me! Also, now… we start talking about PROSTATE vs. hair loss, and all of a sudden compliance isn’t an issue -you’ll keep taking that saw palmetto for years, and maybe that’s why your dad is seeing some results. Maybe he’s been using it for his prostate longer than most people would for hair loss. -O.M.G. |

[ # 2 ] March 16, 2010, 12:43 PM LOL great example. You made me think more of Terminator 2. haha. Thanks for the info OMG. I think you are right in the fact that people haven’t taken it long enough to see results. My dad has taken it for atleast 2 years now. Im taking circumin right now(3 months on it). Do you know if there is a time frame on results or if there should be a shed? I felt like I had one when I started a few supps a couple months back but im not sure if this is suppose to happen on circumin. Newayz I moved my lasers around and im gonna start lasering consistently again. Yall kind of motivate me when I can consistently read about it. Its not the same on the other forums. They seem to have more of a hopeless attitude. |

[ # 3 ] March 16, 2010, 04:34 PM brh….is your father taking just saw palmetto or is he taking a combination product for the prostate that includes other things besides saw palmetto? |

[ # 5 ] March 20, 2010, 02:24 PM brh— I’d recommend Epilobium over Saw Palmetto, both for Prostate and DHT-reduction. Folks really don’t report sides with it, plus it has a powerful natural anti-inflammatory effect that Saw Palmetto does not, and that is BESIDES it’s DHT-reduction ability. |
