[ # 1 ] March 17, 2010, 11:53 AM brh - Experiences may differ of course in everyone, however there are some general expectations. First I should state that curcumin is more viable when it is combined with trans-resveratrol, but first will just discuss curcumin on its own. While the focus in the medical literature discusses the relatively low absorption of curcumin in the serum, Curcumin in small doses provides a hormesis effect, in which a relatively small dose exerts positive effects with respect to adaptive cellular stress response to activating signaling pathways that result in increased expression of genes encoding cytoprotective proteins including antioxidant enzymes, protein chaperones, growth factors and mitochondrial proteins. Curcumin in larger doses appear to benefit the intestinal microflora, and shorten the bowel transit time, provided there is at least some turmeric in the curcumin fraction. Generally, curcumin modulates the release of serotonin and dopamine in a positive manner even during elevated stress. So, it can act as an anti-depressant. When curcumin is used along with EPA/DHA from Omega-3 fatty acids, it can significantly reduce inflammatory effects of iNOS, COX-2, 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and cPLA(2). When curcumin is taken with trans-resveratrol, an added benefit occurs with respect to neurogenic inflammation. Trans-resveratrol and curcumin act as antagonists/inverse agonists at CB1 receptors in low to moderate doses. Effectively, they reduce the sort of inflammation that occurs during heighten stress response and the temperature changes associated with skin. This is especially useful for the temporal area. |

[ # 2 ] March 17, 2010, 01:07 PM So then it would be ok to start taking saw palmetto while on circumin? Im taking EC as well. I didn’t know that the combined effect of cirumin and resveratrol acted differently. I just figured..anti oxidant=anti oxidant. |

[ # 3 ] March 17, 2010, 01:28 PM brh - A variety of substances increase the efficacy of curcumin, so yes adding resveratrol will expand its protection to a whole new and important area. Saw Palmetto is not so predictable and to my mind and experience, it’s a lot like adding a Pinto to your automobile collection of Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s. I would suggest adding Sulforaphane instead of Saw Palmetto.

[ # 6 ] March 17, 2010, 03:38 PM brh - Curcumin inhibits DHT to an extent, and both curcumin and sulforaphane down-regulate and/or repress the expression of the androgen receptor. So, in other words, it renders it less sensitive. |

[ # 12 ] March 20, 2010, 02:33 PM brh— We will be releasing some products of our own, including an Eclonia Cava/Curcumin/Resveratrol supplement that will use pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, at therapeutic quantities. It will be a bit yet, but something to keep in mind for a trustworthy source, as we will of course be using our own supplements! |
